Lake Annecy, located in Haute-Savoie, has had a tumultuous history.

In the 19th century, industrialization led to significant pollution of its waters. In the 1960s, the lake was considered one of the most polluted in Europe.

However, considerable efforts have been made to clean up the lake. Sewage treatment plants were built, and measures were taken to limit industrial and domestic discharges. In addition, regulations were put in place to protect the lake from human activities.

Thanks to these efforts, Lake Annecy is now one of the cleanest lakes in Europe.

It has also become a major tourist attraction, offering a wide variety of water and leisure activities.

It is the heart of a region that beats to the rhythms of the seasons and the superb theatre of those who reside there. However, the preservation of the lake cannot be taken for granted. Visitors, as well as residents, must be aware of their impact on the environment and take measures to protect the region’s natural resources.

This may include reducing the use of disposable products, recycling, using clean means of transportation, and respecting environmental regulations in force. We have much to learn and do to change our practices, from respecting the cleanliness of a picnic to dealing with invasive cigarette butts and changing behavior around sunscreen and other toxic emissions.
